What are the steps for further education if one has there undergrad in Marketing/Business, but not education? What sort of degree or certificates would you need to become a high school business teacher?

I’m not familiar with other state requirements, but you can prove subject matter competency in California through the CSET exams — that’s proving your qualification to teach Business. In terms of acquiring your teaching credential, you need to take and pass the CBEST exam (an English/Math basic knowledge test), and you do need teacher credential courses (usually 1 – 2 years) to earn a preliminary credential.

Again, in -California-, demonstrating subject matter competency, passing the CBEST, and completing a teacher credentialing program will allow you to get a teaching job. For other states, you can probably find detailed requirements at their state department of education websites. Good luck.

I think depending on your location, there is probably going to be demand for any or all of those. The first 2 are quite easy to get up to speed on, the last one is probably going to be a bit harder. We used a personal travel planner to arrange our honeymoon, and the consultant was born and raised in the area we were visiting, and spent 2 months of each year updating their information by visiting the hotels/lodges to make sure they were still worth recommending etc etc.

I want to be able to set my own hours so I can stay home with my 3 year old daughter and hopefully soon a sibling. I am planning to start my own home based business helping others decorate/organize their homes. I was thinking some sort of contest where people could send in their worst or best decorating projects. Maybe I could get some of the local businesses(furniture/accessory stores) to participate and make a big media blitz or something. But I’m not sure exactly how to go about it. You sound like you want to start your business and will go through with it, but you need to slow down. Start with doing a few jobs and establish yourself with local fabric and furniture companies. Get your name out there first and establish a clientele before doing any contests. I also believe that a great place to get started is with decorating for businesses around town. Their lobbies and waiting rooms reflect the company’s sense of quality.
After you do a few of these jobs, then your reputation, if it is good, will be enough to carry your business.
